MEP 2040 Whole Life Carbon Pilot
DATA, ANALYSIS AND REPORTING
The MEP Whole Life Carbon Pilot represents a groundbreaking industry collaboration launched in February 2025. This innovative program brings together 35 leading firms to measure and analyze carbon emissions across the full lifecycle of MEP systems in 40 diverse building projects.
Participants in this six-month initiative gain hands-on experience applying the measurement methodologies outlined in the Beginner's Guide to MEP Embodied Carbon. Through structured weekly sessions from February through July 2025, teams explore comprehensive approaches to quantifying and addressing three critical emission categories:
Embodied carbon from MEP materials and equipment
Fugitive emissions from refrigerants and other sources
Operational emissions associated with MEP systems
By consolidating data and insights from this diverse project portfolio, the pilot aims to establish industry benchmarks, identify high-impact reduction strategies, and accelerate the adoption of whole life carbon assessment practices throughout the MEP sector. This collaborative effort represents a significant step toward the MEP 2040 commitment to net zero carbon across all aspects of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
